Fundraising & Giving Back
As the Scholastic Book Fair Chairperson
for my child's school,
I wanted to volunteer for this position because a) I love children's
books, and b) I have experience working in the publishing industry.
Plus... I see my child at school and sneak in a hug or a high-five!
The book fair is a big job. It requires a lot of planning and timely
marketing via:
-
flyers
-
website announcement
-
emails
-
and social media campaigns
It also entails:
-
set-up
-
breakdown
-
decorating
-
and reordering books
Honestly, it takes a team of people to make it a success. Fortunately, I have a wonderful and dedicated group of parents I work with that make this possible. I would like to publicly thank Heather Ellis, Katie Cote, and Allison Skoczenski for all their support.
Giving Back
Si
Since taking over as chairperson:
-
We have sought monetary donations outside the school community to ensure that children most in need go home with books.
-
We have elevated the book fair to a community event by involving the city fire department, police department, librarians, local politicians & school board to show their support for early childhood literacy.
-
We have donated $1000.00 Scholastic Dollars to each grade level in the school for new book purchases in the classrooms.
-
We have donated $1000.00 Scholastic Dollars to the school library for new books and equipment.

More fundraising
for a cause!
The Fairfield PTO wanted to bring Maine children's author, Chris Van Dusen, to Fairfield School as part of a literary enrichment program. I was asked to design flyers that would promote their coin drive & treasure chest theme.

Success stories here!

I was excited to find out that one of the children submitted her coins by taping and matching them with the pictures.
